Week in Review- Jan. 20th thru Jan. 25th, 2014

Track teams split final regular season meet-  The Girls Track team defeated Foxboro on Thursday in the final regular season meet of the season, 54.66-39.33 while the Boys Track team fell to the Warriors 32-61.

The girls' victory was led by triple-winner Rachel Campagna who won the 55m, 300m and long jump. Amanda Eagles ran a great 2-mile, winning the race and qualifying for the States. Samantha Koplik won the 55m hurdles.

The boys had many great performances but were just not deep enough to compete with the Warriors. Kenny Ofanagoro won the 55m and the long jump. Liam Collins won the mile, just missing the state qualifying time. Joe Clancy won the 2-mile. Finally, 4x400 team won and qualified for the states- Matt Derbin, Timmy Gutowski, Collins, and Patrick Hession.

Wrestlers down Mansfield- It wasn't too many years ago that a Bulldog win over Mansfield in Wrestling would be next to unheard of. My how things have changed. Monday night saw the Wrestling team convincingly beat the Hornets on the road, 51-22. Rob DiCalogero's OT win against one of Mansfield's best was the biggest highlight of the night. Other winners included Steven Corkery, John O'Brien, Brendan Lewis, Waleed Chakir and Binah Smith (his first varsity win).

The team performed well in a 42-33 loss at Sharon on Thursday, but again, many good performances were put in by the 'dogs.

Boys Hockey earns two big wins- Coach Shuman seems to have the Boys Hockey team hitting stride just as they head into the final weeks of the season. The team fell, 2-1, to powerhouse Newburyport on the road on Monday in a great battle. The two teams are very familiar with each other as they have faced each other in the state final twice in the past five years.  The 'dogs played some of their best hockey of the season in the tough loss.

The rest of the the week saw the team earn big wins over pre-season D2 South favorite Medfield, 4-2 as well as a big team victory over Foxboro. The wins improve the team's record to 5 wins, 4 ties and 3 losses.

Multiple goal scorers this week were: Matt Lazaro (2), Ben Lodge (3), and Brendan Logan (2).

Scoring their first career goals this week were: Jackson Maffeo, Sam Nagel, and Bobby Mullaney.

Boys Basketball emphatically ends winless streak- The high-scoring Bulldog Boys Basketball team seemed to be missing for a streak of games of late, but that certainly ended with Friday's 95-72 win on the road at Milford. The team ended a long string of losses to improve to 5-7 and get back in the playoff hunt. Scoring nearly 100 points is something rarely seen in high school basketball but the Bulldogs were on fire. Matt Kelley (33), Sam Larson (30) and Tristan Morris (22) led the way while the team knocked down 14 three point shots.

Girls Basketball comes up just short- You wouldn't know that the Girls  Basketball team was still in search of its first victory simply by watching the team's play. Friday was a perfect example as the squad played a very strong game against Milford- a team who had handled the Bulldogs relatively easily in their first meeting. This time was different but the 'dogs fell just short, 34-32. Gabby Kenefick played exceptionally well on defense while Shannon Foley knocked in 3 three-pointers. Caitlyn Hathaway's game winning three point shot attempt in the final seconds just rimmed out leaving the Bulldog's still searching for that elusive win.

Girls Hockey continues to play well- Despite not getting the results they are looking for, the Girls Hockey team continued with some fine play early in the week falling to Whitman-Hanson/Pembroke in a very well played hockey game, 3-2.
