Unified Track Team ready to kick-off inaugural season

The Canton High School Athletic Department and the CHS Student Services Department are happy to announce the formation of a Unified Track and Field Team for the 2016 Spring Season.

Special Olympics Project Unify is an education-based project, funded by the US Dept. of Education, that uses the sports and education programs of Special Olympics to activate young people across the US. In order to promote school communities where all young people are agents of change- fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with disabilities.  Canton High School and Special Olympics believe that through sports young people can make a difference in friendships, schools and communities.

The Unified Track and Field program will begin the week of Monday, March 28th. There will be 1-2 practices each week with approximately 3-4 meets. The team will ultimately be made up of both student with and without disabilities.  Our hope is to continue to strengthen our inclusive community and help develop new friendships and meaningful learning experiences for all students.

Any student interested in joining the Unified Track and Field Team, should have his/her parent register them online by visiting the CHS Athletics Website.

Swimmers excel while Melendez crowned State Champion- Twice!

Canton High School junior Sebastian Melendez earned double-gold at this weekend's MIAA State Swim Championship meet held at Boston University.

Sebastian's victories came in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. We believe this to be the first ever State Championship for a male swimmer at CHS-----maybe first ever for either gender. Congratulations to Sebastian on this amazing accomplishment.

Melendez's performances were not the only highlights of the weekend.

  • Sean Mitchell finished 10th in the 50 Freestyle.
  • The 200 Freestyle relay team of Diego Ferstler, Mitchell, Owen Guerini and Melendez took 5th.

On the girls side-

  • Tiffany Ha finished 14th in 100 Freestyle and 7th in the Backstroke.
  • The Medley Relay team of Ha, Briana Murphy, Maddie Nourse, and Dasol Lee took 26th.

Hockey Team faces off with Boston Bear Cubs

This past weekend saw members of the Boys Varsity Hockey team face off against the Boston Bear Cubs.  Bulldog CEO Matty Marcone skates for the Bear Cubs so the events was quite the event for Bulldog and Bear Cub fans alike. It was a great event!

Two New Varsity Coaches Appointed

The CHS Athletic Department is happy to announce the appointment of two "new" varsity coaches. CHS History Teacher Joel Chamberlain has been named the Girls Tennis coach while Chrissy O'Connor has been named the Field Hockey coach. Both Chamberlain and O'Connor are CHS graduates- each competing in multiple sports during their Bulldog playing days.

Chamberlain will lead the Girls Tennis team into the 2016 spring season next month. He is inheriting a program that has lingered around the .500 mark for most of the past decade- always competing well in the competitive Hockomock.  Chamberlain will be looking to create a positive environment that he hopes will lead to sustained program success.

O'Connor is certainly no stranger to the Canton Field Hockey community. This will be her 2nd stint at the top post of the Bulldog Field Hockey team.  She previously served as head coach from 1997-2004, culminating in a State Championship season in 2004 while earning five Hockomock League titles along the way. O'Connor is ready to hit the ground running for the fall 2016 season.

The CHS Athletic Department is happy to welcome both coach Chamberlain and coach O'Connor to the varsity coaching ranks.
