MIAA Hockey update- Upset Saturday!

Both the Girls and Boys Hockey teams posted come-from-behind, upset wins in the MIAA State Tournament on Saturday.  Meanwhile, CHS hockey alum Kevin Rooney was skating in his 2nd ever NHL game- this one at the Boston Garden. It was a great day for Bulldog hockey fans everywhere.

The Girls Team-
The biggest upset of the day was provided by the Girls team, who traveled to Westborough to face #3 seeded (18-2) Shrewsbury.  The Bulldogs surrendered an early goal but hung tough before storming back with two 3rd period goals (Lauren Fitzpatrick, Andrea McNeil) to earn the huge 2-1 win. Colleen Kelleher was HUGE in net on the day.
NEXT GAME-
MIAA D2 State Tournament Quarter-Final Round on Saturday, March 11th at 5:15 at Gallo Arena in Bourne vs. winner of Winchester vs. Whitman/Hanson.

The Boys Team-
More drama (and nail-biting) came Saturday night as the Boys team found themselves down 2-0 against #3 seeded Bishop Feehan early in the 2nd period. But the Bulldogs fought hard and capitalized on two power plays (one in the 2nd and one in the 3rd) to force the game to OT. After a scoreless 6-minutes of 4v4, the numbers were dropped to 3v3 for the final OT period. After a couple of minutes of back-and-forth play, with chances for both teams to win it, Ryan Nolte tucked in the game-winner leading to a huge celebration. Quinn Gibbs was calm and cool under pressure in goal throughout the entire game.
NEXT GAME-
MIAA D2 South Semi-Final on Tuesday, March 7th at 5:30pm at Gallo Arena in Bourne vs. #2 seeded Medway.

For those folks trying to figure out where each team is in relation to championships...here is a quick synopsis of the where the two teams are:

Girls Hockey in the state is NOT broken into sections so there is one, big D2 State Tournament that features teams from all around the commonwealth.  Our Girls have advanced to the Quarter-Final round of that tournament. That means they are part of the final 8 teams in the state competing for a State Championship. They need 3 more wins.

Boys Hockey in the state is broken into sections. At the D2 Level (which is where we are), there are two sections- North and South. Our Boys are competing in the D2 South Section and are currently in the Semi-Final round. That means there are 4 teams left, playing for a sectional title. The winner of the South section plays the winner of the North section in the State Finals. That means the boys also need 3 more wins.
