Canton Athletics loses a great advocate and friend- Maura Sullivan

The Canton High School Athletic Department would like to extend our condolences to the family of Maura Sullivan, who passed away Saturday after a "private but fierce battle with cancer."

Maura was a huge supporter of CHS Athletics- among many other Canton groups and causes over the years. She was the key voice in the creation and establishment of the Canton Hall of Fame. Through the early 2000's this group inducted and honored dozens of individuals and teams who have accomplished great things as Bulldogs and Canton residents. Through the Hall of Fame committee, Maura also established a Canton Sports History Project, which helped document and acknowledge much of the proud history of Canton Athletics.

Beyond her work with the Hall of Fame, Maura was also a dogged supporter of the CHS Field Hockey program.  She worked behind the scenes with the program for many years, never seeking the limelight. Come tournament time each year, you could find Maura- camera in hand- patrolling the Bulldog sidelines waiting to witness the next chapter CHS Field Hockey greatness. When I would speak with her on the sidelines, her commitment and love for the program was easy to detect.  Her favorite Bulldog was certainly her daughter Lainey.  To hear Maura speak with such pride and fondness in Lainey's days as a Bulldog Field Hockey player will always make me very proud of what high school athletics can mean to a family.

Canton will miss this great Bulldog.
