Another milestone for record-breaking Cerruti

Kiara Cerruti in action Tuesday
night at home vs. Sharon
Less than two weeks after joining the exclusive 1,000 point club, CHS senior Kiara Cerruti has now broken the CHS Girls Basketball career scoring record.

The record breaking event took place Friday night, February 11th when the Bulldogs visited North Attleboro and came away with a big win.  Cerruti needed 13 points to surpass Eileen Morneau's 1057 points- which was set back in 1996- 26 years ago! That is a LONG time for a record like that to stand.

The record breaking moment occurred on a free throw midway through the 2nd quarter. Cerruti would go on to score 23 in the game and now stands at 1068 with four regular season games and at least one tournament game remaining. Just how high the new record will climb is yet to be determined but one thing is for sure- it is an amazing accomplishment and will certainly inspire many young Bulldog athletes to work hard chasing her mark in the future!

Morneau has had her eye on Cerruti's quest recently and had this to say upon passing the "All-Time Leading Scorer" torch to her-

after joining the 1000 point club

"It's been a lonely 26 years but I'm elated to have another female in the exclusive 1,000 point club! My heart-felt congratulations go out to Kiara on the accomplishment and on setting a new high mark for excellence in the program.  I hope this inspires other female athletes to strive for greatness within themselves at Canton High School."

Morneau's record was particularly impressive given the fact that she missed her entire junior season with a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus. She actually came back her senior season to the same gym (Stoughton High School) where her injury occurred the year prior, and scored her 1,000th point before going on to finish up with 1057.  She earned Hock MVP, Boston Globe and Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic honors.

Kiara is part of a very special group of Girls Basketball players from the class of 2022 who are leading the program to an incredible season. The team currently sits just outside the top 10 power seeds for the state tournament and would host a first round game if the season ended today.  Keep an eye on this group!

Congratulations to Kiara Cerruti- the ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER in CHS Girls Basketball history.
