500 kills being celebrated by Jess and teammates |
At a recent CHS road Volleyball game, CHS senior Volleyball captain Jessica Wright joined the exclusive 500 kill club. For all you non-volleyball folks out there- it's not nearly as sinister as it sounds- but it is as impressive!
A "kill" in volleyball is likely what you would think it would be-
"A kill is awarded to a player any time an attack is unreturnable by the opposition and is a direct cause of the opponent not returning the ball, or any time the attack leads directly to a blocking error by the opposition. A kill leads directly to a point."
Jess Wright, an outside hitter, crushed her 500th career kill during the Bulldog's recent trip to North Quincy. Jess is only the 6th player in the storied program's history to reach this amazing level of accomplishment. A four-year member of the CHS varsity, at two-year captain and currently a three-sport captain, Jess has made herself into one of the top volleyball players in the state of Massachusetts.

Hall of Fame Coach Pat Cawley had this to say about her milestone-setting outside hitter-
"She is a tireless worker and a competitive athlete. She has been a six-position player for us for the past two seasons and is a huge reason for our team's success. Jess is humble and takes pride in every skill she performs whether it be in practice or a match. Jess is also among the Canton all-tie leaders in serving %, aces and digs."
Coach Cawley, all of her assistants and Jess's teammates honored her accomplishment with a pre-game celebration on Thursday prior to the team's match with Milford. Then Jess went out and led her team to a 3-0 win! Something tells me her volleyball accomplishments are far from over here at CHS and beyond!
