Wright joins elite group in CHS Volleyball history

500 kills being celebrated by
Jess and teammates

At a recent CHS road Volleyball game, CHS senior Volleyball captain Jessica Wright joined the exclusive 500 kill club. For all you non-volleyball folks out there- it's not nearly as sinister as it sounds- but it is as impressive!

A "kill" in volleyball is likely what you would think it would be-

"A kill is awarded to a player any time an attack is unreturnable by the opposition and is a direct cause of the opponent not returning the ball, or any time the attack leads directly to a blocking error by the opposition. A kill leads directly to a point."

Jess Wright, an outside hitter, crushed her 500th career kill during the Bulldog's recent trip to North Quincy. Jess is only the 6th player  in the storied program's history to reach this amazing level of accomplishment.  A four-year member of the CHS varsity, at two-year captain and currently a three-sport captain, Jess has made herself into one of the top volleyball players in the state of Massachusetts.

Jess with her family at the
pre-game celebration

Hall of Fame Coach Pat Cawley had this to say about her milestone-setting outside hitter-

"She is a tireless worker and a competitive athlete. She has been a six-position player for us for the past two seasons and is a huge reason for our team's success. Jess is humble and takes pride in every skill she performs whether it be in practice or a match. Jess is also among the Canton all-tie leaders in serving %, aces and digs."

Coach Cawley, all of her assistants and Jess's teammates honored her accomplishment with a pre-game celebration on Thursday prior to the team's match with Milford. Then Jess went out and led her team to a 3-0 win! Something tells me her volleyball accomplishments are far from over here at CHS and beyond!

Unified Basketball is Back!

The CHS Athletic Department is happy to announce that our Unified Sports program is beginning its 2023-24 season on Tuesday 9/26!

CHS has been at the forefront of the Unified Sports scene since we launched our Unified Track and Field program in 2016. In Massachusetts, Unified Sports were born out of a collaboration between US Special Olympics and the MIAA.  Special Olympics Project Unify is an education-based project, funded by the US Dept. of Education, that uses the sports and education programs of Special Olympics to activate young people across the US. In order to promote school communities where all young people are agents of change- fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with disabilities.  Canton High School and Special Olympics believe that through sports young people can make a difference in friendships, schools and communities.

The program is open to ALL CHS students. The commitment is limited to two afternoon's each week- starting next week and ending in mid-November.

We are looking for student athletes and partners! If you enjoy basketball and are looking for a fun, inclusive, and meaningful experience please join!!!

CHS Launches HudlTV for livestreaming

The CHS Athletic Department is excited to announce that beginning in the fall of 2023 varsity events taking place at WWII Veterans' Memorial Field or CHS's Masciarelli Gymnasium will be livestreamed on our new HudlTV channel.

The CHS Athletic Department has been working with Hudl on many items to get as many events streamed as possible. There continue to be some challenges we face with this new technology, but we are in good shape for our Bulldog fans to watch many contests live on their device.  All livestreamed contests will be available to view after the event as well on the "Past" tab.

As Hudl's technology continues to advance, we will be able to add more our our Bulldog teams to our livestream offerings.

The HudlTV channel takes the place of our old YouTube channel which is now dormant.

Our ability to film these games for both educational, coaching purposes as well as a service to the Bulldog fan community is made possible by the support of the CHS Athletic Booster Club. This club is the sole financial source for our Hudl and HudlTV partnership. Be sure to thank a CHS booster member and consider becoming one as well!  Link to CHS Boosters

CHS Hosts Hockomock Fall Captains Leadership Conference

Fatima, Regan and Devan
were amazing MC's
This past Wednesday, Canton High School was the proud host of the Hockomock League Fall Captains Conference.  Roughly 300 captains from all twelve Hock schools converged onto CHS for a morning of leadership training and relationship building in an effort to continue to strengthen the athletic environment for the Hock, its dozen schools and thousands of student athletes.

Thanks go out to CHS Wellness teacher Ryan Gordy who prepared our Bulldog Fall Captains to lead and facilitate working groups for each of the Hock's fall sports.  It was amazing to see our Fall Captains lead other leaders in this important cross-community work. They were awesome!

Wednesday's conference was the first of its kind- student athlete-led, as well as the first since Covid-19 interrupted a decades-long run of the Hock hosting a Captains' Conference. We are thrilled that CHS was able to showcase our amazing student athlete leaders to the entire league as this great tradition was re-established with a new and more impactful format.

A big thank you goes out to CHS staff and administration for all of their hospitality and flexibility in allowing us to host this event.

The CHS Athletic Department is so proud of our young leaders who all stepped out of their comfort zones to grow and help others do the same.  Great job Bulldogs!

Some Need-to-Knows for Bulldogs and families

As we start off the school year, we ask that all Bulldogs and famailies review this Need-to-Know sheet found at link below.

Need-to-Know Sheet

Digital Ticketing back for this school year

As was the case during the 2022-23 school year,  tickets to Bulldog home games will be exclusively digital this school year.  That means purchasing our tickets will only be possible through GoFan- a digital platform on your smart phone or using a credit card.

This allows the CHS Athletic Department to track ticket purchases in a format which accounts for all purchases in a much more organized fashion. It also embraces the reality that fewer people are carrying cash with them these days. Digital ticketing provides an easy, quick way to purchase your tickets and gain entry at our gates.

Tickets this fall will be on sale for the following events-

  • All Home Varsity Football games
  • Evening/Night Soccer Games
  • All home tournament games for Football, Soccer, FH and Volleyball
People who struggle with the system, will NOT be turned away from our games.  We will make sure Bulldog event staff is present to assist.

There is no need to upload the GoFan app to your phone but it may make the process a little simpler for you.

Here are the ways to purchase tickets moving forward:

1. Pre-purchasing tickets- This is the way to go!!!! Visit our page on GoFan and follow instructions to purchase tickets. Link to CHS GoFan page  Your tickets will be emailed to you. You must have access to that email on your smartphone when you arrive at the gates.

2. Purchasing at the gate- If you wait to purchase tickets at the gate, the process will take a bit longer. CHS Athletic event staff will be present at the gate to assist in these purchases. You will need a credit card to make the purchase.  A smart phone makes the purchase much easier.

Ticket Prices-
General Admission- $5.50
Senior Citizen- $3
Under 8- FREE
NOTE- Thanksgiving Football and tournament games have a different cost structure.
