The winter season got started this week as Track, Basketball and Wrestling all had their first contests of the season while scheduled hockey games on Saturday were postponed due to snow.
Wrestlers break even- The Wrestling team started the season at a dual tournament at Bristol Aggie on Saturday. The team got in a great deal of wrestling in this first day of competition, earning team wins against Hanover (42-42- win on tie-breaker) and Bristol Aggie (53-17) while falling to Wakefield (33-45) and Sabis (24-58). Chris Sullivan, Rob DiCalogero and Brendan Lewis were perfect on the day- each going 4-0 while Mike Reese went 3-1. Max Platt, Courtland Priest, Waleed Chakir and Steili Dandis each earned multiple Bulldog victories on the day.
Boys and Girls Basketball teams fall to Taunton- Opening the hoop season against perennial power Taunton was quite a task for both the Boys and Girls squads, but both teams fought hard in what ended up being two losses. The Boys game was close throughout before the visitors pulled away in the 2nd half, defeating the Bulldogs 73-54. Sam Larson led the way for the Bulldogs scoring 18 points in the loss. The Girls game followed the opposite pattern, with the visiting Bulldogs digging themselves a deep hole by halftime, but battled back in the 2nd to make a great game of it, falling 51-38. The Girls were led by Shannon Foley's 14 point performance.
The Bulldog track teams ran up against powerful Oliver Ames in the league opener and were outmatched despite some strong performances.
Everyone is in action this week so next week's Week in Review will certainly have much more to it!
