Thanks for the Boost!

Please consider supporting Boosters!

2017-18 was a great year for CHS Athletics! We accomplished a great deal.  But without the support of our amazing Booster Club, much of the experience would have been incomplete.  On behalf of all CHS student athletes and coaches, we want to say THANK YOU to the CHS Athletic Booster Club for all you did for us this year.

Here are some of the big purchases the CHS Athletic Booster Club supported this year:

Sky High end zone camera for filming
football games from a great angle.

HUGE Bulldog banner in the gym. It really
completes the home court advantage!
Speaking of banners- Boosters updated or purchased more than a
dozen championship banners this year alone!

32 new chairs for our home games in the gym.
Volleyball, Wrestling and Basketball will benefit
from these for years to come,

Bringing in guest speaker Aaron Polansky to kick-off
the athletic year for our student athletes and parent
with a message of being good to each other.

This contraption is called a shoot-away and it
allows our basketball players to train much more
effectively, both in-season and in the off-season.

New media backdrop and table cloth.  Our Bulldogs will now
sign their college NLI's and pose for other important ceremonies
with this professional backdrop.

New photos were purchased to replace those hanging in the
athletic hallway for each of our sports!
That is just a small fraction of the great things the Boosters do for us!

They also:
  • Increased their support of all banquets and senior nights.
  • Continued to fund much needed scrimmages for our programs.
  • Provided Championship recognition for our Championship teams.
  • Funded a huge portion of Strength and Conditioning costs for our teams.
  • Provided Bulldog gear for our coaching staff so that our programs look professional.
  • Help out with any gaps that exist that they can fill!

2017-18 Hockomock League Sportsmanship School of the Year!

2018-19 Fall Bulldog Captains were presented the Sportsmanship Award by the Hockomock for 2017/18 school year
Canton High School was informed at a Hockomock League meeting today, that the Bulldogs are the official winner of the 2017-18 Hockomock League Sportsmanship Award.

The Hock Sportsmanship Award winner is determined annually using a point system based upon how the coaches of each of the league's sports vote on the level of sportsmanship displayed by each team. The top three vote-getting teams in each sport are awarded points which go toward an overall tally. At year's end, the tallies are added up and we are so proud that this year, the Bulldogs came out on top.

"It was a key pre-school year goal for our coaching staff to go out and set a sporting, classy tone that could possibly result in this honor this year," explained CHS Athletic Director Danny Erickson. "It is a great feeling to know that our coaching staff set such a positive, sporting, classy tone while our student athletes handled themselves with such great sportsmanship both in the arena of competition and in the stands.  It is a proud moment for me and should be for all Bulldogs."

It took many acts of sportsmanship- both large and small- over the entire school year to be honored with this award. Every handshake, cheer, extended hand, slap on the back, kind word, and biting of tongue led to this award.

Special shout out to the following individual programs for earning top recognition in their respective sport towards this honor- Softball, Wrestling, Girls Basketball, Girls Hockey and Boys Soccer.

Boys LAX advance while Softball bows out

In a busy day of CHS MIAA tournament action, the Softball team fell to Dighton-Rehoboth while the Boys Lacrosse team defeated Sandwich.

The Softball team fell victim of a rough first inning but hung tough the rest of the way, falling to D-R, 8-0 in the first round of the tournament.

Things went better down the Cape where the Boys LAX team ousted the #3 seed from the tournament, 11-10.  The Bulldogs were down by four goals early in the 3rd, but an explosive 3rd quarter led to a huge upset win and a ticket punched to the Semi-Final Round next Tuesday.   The Dogs will face #2 Scituate on Tuesday at Scituate High School at 6:00pm.

Ticket prices are $7 and $5.

We will hear from the students on June 18th- NEW DATE

As part of the CHS Athletic Department Strategic Plan, student members of the Wellness Leadership class will be making public presentations on Monday night, June 18th at 5:30pm in the CHS Library (this is a new date). There will be four separate presentations- one on each of the following four areas of study:

  • Facilities
  • Consistency of Coaching
  • Equity throughout the Department
  • Strength and Conditioning

The Wellness Leadership class has been working on studying these four areas in sub-committees since January. The groups have collected data, taken inventories, conducted interviews, taken polls and discussed the topic in great detail- all in an effort to make this presentation.  The presentations will provide a student group perspective on the current state of the four areas as well as recommendations on where to go next in order to help the athletic department move forward towards excellence.

Each group's presentation will be roughly 20 minutes long. This is the culminating activity in this project based learning project that has been the core of the Leadership Class's 2nd semester.

Meanwhile- adult coaching groups have been meeting all year long in committees looking at the same areas from a coaching perspective.  CHS Administration will be using the findings of both the student and coaching groups to create objectives for growth for the department heading into the 2018-19 school year.

All interested members of the public (parents, coaches, teachers, fans) are welcome to attend these presentations.  We hope to see you at the library on June 12th!
