Despite the snow on the ground and the twenty-eight degree temperatures, the Canton High School girls tennis team is blossoming as they enter their second week of the 2016 season. With a new coach, new courts, and a new and improved attitude the team has returned with one goal in mind, to reach the state tournament.
A couple obstacles have stood in the Bulldog’s way however, the biggest one being that their 2015 season first singles player, junior Emma Sokolovsky had to pull out for the season due to an injury during the first week of practice. The team was quick to adjust to the change however and wasted no time in putting their previous second singles player, senior Carly Scanlon, into the first singles position. Sophomore Skylar Jabbour, who played third singles last year, slid into the second singles slot accordingly. A challenger tournament was held in order to determine who would obtain the third singles position in which senior Sienna Felix earned the spot. First doubles was easily determined to be senior co-captains Sarah Macquarrie and Tiffany Ha, who first teamed up together last year and earned a stellar record and were runners up for hock MVP’s. At second doubles the team placed Jude Aboukhater and Talya Mayman, who are a new to working together this year but they are both not new to the pressures of playing a varsity position. The 2016 season holds a lot of promise for the Bulldogs.
