Highlights from Recent Bulldog Action
The past two weeks have seen teams make up for lost time early in the season by playing what seems like contest after contest. We've had some ups and downs during this early going. Here are some highlights:
Baseball out of the gates fighting- The Baseball team sits at 3-3 after their first half dozen games. Those games have seen the team go to extra innings 3 times (falling twice). The team has also not let one loss lead to a 2nd as they have rebounded from each loss with a victory. Two of the wins have come over Hock Davenport foes Oliver Ames and Stoughton- giving a bit extra meaning to them.
Girls Tennis earns first win- Vacation week saw the Girls Tennis team earn its first win of the season, 5-0 over Stougthon. Carly Scanlon earned her first victory of the season at the competitive 1st singles spot, leading the way for the Bulldogs. Skyler Jabbour and Tiffany Ha also won at singles while the doubles teams of Christina Guccione-Tlay Meyman and Sarah MacQuarrie-Asia Smith also won.
Boys Lacrosse impressive in big wins- It's hard to say that the Boys LAX team has been on vacation this week as they have had two big wins (17-3 over Milton and 7-5 over Foxboro). Eight different players scored in the Milton win but Paul Swart stole the day- finding the back of the Milton goal six times. John Femia, Bobby Mullaney and Ryan Lodge each scored their first varsity goals in the non-league win. The 7-5 win over Foxboro was even more impressive as the Bulldogs were underdogs heading into this contest with the defending Davenport Champions. Tommy Galvin lead all scorers with 2 goals and an assist while Shawn Kirby also scored 2 clutch goals. The story of the game may have been the performance of goalie Chris Albert who made 17 saves including several clutch 1-on-1 saves late in the 4th quarter which helped the Bulldogs fight off a late Warrior charge. It was a great win for the Bulldogs!
Girls Lacrosse defeats Norwood- Wins have not come easily to the Girls Lacrosse team during this early portion of the season, but Monday of vacation week saw the squad travel to Norwood looking for some revenge on the Mustangs who knocked the Bulldogs out of the playoffs last season---and they got that revenge in the form of a 13-12 win. The win also featured the huge achievement of Mary McNeil scoring her 100th career goal- putting her in some very rare Bulldog company for year's gone-by.
Maltz and Biggers leading Boys Tennis- Nathan Maltz and Dan Biggers have both won many matches thus far this season for the Boys Tennis team but the team has struggled to win that key 3rd point in several tight matches. The team will look to develop that 3rd point as the season moves on.
Softball keeping thing close- Although that first win of the season has eluded the squad up until this point, it is clear that there is plenty of fight in this team. The early going has seen the team fall in two very tight contests to tough North Attleboro and Oliver Ames. Good things will certainly come to this team down the line.
Track and Field is back in action this week!

Early Season Review- Lax teams stand alone
We are now four weeks out since our first day of spring practice and the only two teams to see actual action are the Boys and Girls Lacrosse Teams. With melting snow (or lack there of melting) delaying the start to the Track, Tennis, Baseball and Softball schedules, the spotlight has been shining directly on our Lax teams.
The Boys Team has been incredibly impressive in the early going, earning 3-straight wins after falling to D1 powerhouse Franklin on the road in the season opener. Convincing wins over Quincy (11-6) and Milford (12-5) sandwiched a huge, 7-6 win on the road over Mansfield. Sophomore Joey Mulkay scored the game-winner with less than a minute to play to give the 'dogs the huge road win. Some other notable individual performances early on were put in by Paul Swart (2 goals and 2 assists) against Mansfield and Aidan Carr scoring his first goal of the season in the win at Milford.
The Girls Team has improved each game this season. They were competitive against one of the best teams in the state in the home opener, falling to Franklin (4-14) but showed great fight. They then went on to lose a heart-breaker to visiting NA, (10-9) in a game that truly could have gone either way. The improvement continued into the third game of the season as the team earned its first victory of the young season, 11-9 over always competitive Mansfield.
