Bill and Billy Cravens honored at Football Scrimmage

Friday was an emotional but joyful night at WWII Veteran's Memorial Field as CHS honored the memory of both Bill and Billy Cravens in two special ceremonies.

Bill and his son Billy both passed away this past winter/spring- Dad- after a battle with cancer and Son-after a battle with ALS. The losses were felt across Bulldog nation but also brought the community together. Bill was the most committed of all CHS Athletic fans- attending hundreds of contests annually.  Billy was a phenomenal football player for the 'dogs in the 70s and dedicated his professional life to giving back to the town's young athletes.

Last night saw Bulldog Nation come together to honor their memories in two very appropriate ways.

A chair has been permanently installed in the bleachers at the field to forever memorialize the decades of support that Bill Cravens showed to our student-athletes.
Bulldogs surrounding the Cravens Chair
Immediately following the unveiling of the chair, attention shifted to the track and field where more than 100 Bulldogs gathered to participate in a mass Ice Bucket Challenge to strike out ALS in memory of Billy Cravens. With the football team readying to play their game in memory of Cravens, lining the rest of the fall athletes, a 10 second countdown led to the mass dumping of ice water. It was a wonderful tribute to Cravens.
Principal Derek Folan was among the more than 100 Bulldogs
participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge in memory of
Billy Cravens, class of '76.
The Bulldogs have challenged the rest of the Hock schools to do the same to help strike out ALS!
