Powers takes reins of Girls Lacrosse program

The CHS Athletic Department is thrilled to welcome Coach Jessica Powers as our new Girls Varsity Lacrosse coach.

Coach Jessica Powers

Powers is no stranger to CHS, graduating a proud Bulldog in 2018. During her time as a student here, she was a four-year varsity lacrosse player, serving as captain her senior season. She joined the CHS Girls Lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant last spring and has served as Bulldog JV Girls Basketball coach for the past two seasons.

Powers is an educator for her "day job" as well, teaching at the Galvin Middle School for two years before moving on to teach History at Stoughton High School.

Bulldog Nation is thrilled to have Coach Powers taking the lead role in the Girls Lax program.  She brings with her a love of the game and a passion for coaching.  She is a great role model for all of our team members.

Coach Powers had this two say upon her official appointment-

"I am honored and excited to be the Varsity Girls Lacrosse coach at Canton High School. This program has a special place in my heart from my experiences as a player, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this team as head coach. I look forward to working with the players and to continue building CHS Girls Lacrosse as a strong, successful program. Go Bulldogs!"

Boys Swim win Davenport Title

For the first time since 2017, the CHS Boys Swim team has won the Hockomock League Davenport Championship.  The title was secured last night as the Bulldogs improved to 6-0 this season with a great win over Oliver Ames. 90-57.

Coach Cavanaugh praised her entire team but highlighted the following-

2024-25 Hockomock Davenport Champions!

We had quite a few talented new freshmen added to our team this year.  Among them were Ronin Ricks, Maddox Carbone, Neil Ericson, Brendan Holloran, Elmustafa Kosta and Ben Caccioppo. Ronin and Maddox made the biggest splash in their debut season.

Some other underclassmen who contributed to the Davenport Championship were Tim Tseng, Aidan Pham, Ryan Hickey, Alvin Neih, Nick Murphy, Minh Hong, Jayden He, Maris Veidis, Mahn Vu and Ben Nguyen.

Many senior members of the team were critical to the team's success as well. Devin Townsend graduates as a CHS swimmer who could not swim when he first joined the team. He has served as an inspiration to our team for kindness, team spirit and being the first in the pool for each practice. Ben Howe and Ali Kosta- team captains have been great role models and great leaders as well as exceptional swimmers.

A big shout out to the Girls Swim team as well. They came up just short in their quest to win a 6th straight Davenport Title of their own. Four girls have qualified for the upcoming sectional and state meets- Annie McLean, Caitlin Reynolds, Julianne Gilchrist, and Amy Murphy.

Morgan's Message comes to CHS on 1/17/25

On Friday, January 17th, Canton High School’s mental health club (SWAG) will be hosting its first-ever Morgan’s Message dedication night at the boy's basketball game at the Masciarelli Gym at CHS. Morgan’s Message is an organization that is centered around addressing student-athlete mental health at both the high school and colligate level. It is named after a Duke lacrosse player named Morgan Roberts, who tragically lost his life to suicide in July of 2019.

Morgan was a talented lacrosse athlete, who was known for her hard work and dedication to the sport. Beyond the field, she was a gifted artist and a loving friend to all. In January 2017, just before her sophomore season, she suffered a major knee injury. She spent the next 12 months determined to get back onto the field, which required her to get surgery and have intense rehab. During this, she was silently suffering with her mental health due to the isolation and the fear of not living up to the expectations created within her head.

Morgan’s Messages allows CHS athletes to address student-athlete mental health concerns. All donations will go straight to the organization. For more information, check out https://www.morgansmessage.org/
