MIAA Spring Sports State Tournament Info- That's a Wrap!

NOTE- This Blog entry will be upated throughout the MIAA Spring State Tournament Season. Please visit for the most up-to-date info on the action. 

It has been another successful season for our Bulldogs as we wrap up the regular season and prepare for post-season action. Below is where we stand:

Track Teams- Members of our boys and girls teams are competing in the MIAA Heptathalon this week!

Boys Lacrosse- Seeded #20 in D2 MIAA State Tournament- Lost to #13 seeded Plymouth South in Round of 32 action, 9-7. Great season boys!

Girls Lacrosse- Seeded #18 in D2 MIAA State Tournament- Lost 12-5 to #15 seeded Billerica High School in Round of 32 action. Great season girls!

Boys Tennis- Seeded #27 in D2 MIAA State Tournament- Lost to #6 seeded Sharon in Round of 32, 4-1. Hats off to Max Kupferman who finished the season unbeaten at first singles.

Baseball- Seeded #30 in D2 MIAA State Tournament- Lost to #35 Agawam High School in a preliminary round game, 2-4. Great season for the boys!

Unified Track- An amazing season has wrapped up. Many great performances highlighted by Lazarus Bozeman's 1st place finish in the 400m at Sectionals! 

Softball- Regular season over. Did not qualify. 

Girls Tennis- Regular season completed.  Did not qualify for post-season. 

Fall Cheer Tryouts set for mid-June

Coach Stephanie Parker recently announced that tryouts for the Fall Cheer team will take place this June.

All interested candidates should report to the Rodman Building Gymnasium for tryouts on Tuesday, June 13th, Wednesday, June 14th and Thursday, June 15th  from 3:00pm-4:30pm. 

Candidates should come ready to go- dressed in shorts, t-shirt and cheer shoes or white sneakers. 

Only candidates who have been REGISTERED by their parent/guardian through the CHS Athletics site by Thursday, June 9th, will be eligible to try out. Click Here for Registration information. 

We are hoping to have a Varsity and JV team again next year.

Fall 2023 Athletics Registration now open

Not to wish summer away....but Fall Sports registration is now open!

Anyone interested in trying out for a fall athletic program MUST have a parent/guardian register you prior to doing so.

In order to register, visit the CHS Athletics website and complete the online registration available there. See link below.

To secure your spot for the first day of the season, PLEASE register before the end of this school year!

The following sports programs are offered at CHS in the fall:

Boys Teams-

• Cross Country (Varsity)
• Football (Varsity, Froshmore)
• Golf (Varsity)
• Soccer (Varsity, JV)

Girls Teams-

• Cheerleading (Varsity)- Tryouts for Cheer are taking place in June. Keep eye out for info!
• Cross Country (Varsity)
• Field Hockey (Varsity, JV)
• Soccer (Varsity, JV)
• Volleyball (Varsity, JV and Freshmen)

Coed Team-

Unified Basketball- Please note that this program is currently open for registration but it begins roughly a month after the other sports listed. It runs into the winter. 

User Fees- 
There are three ways to pay the User Fee for CHS Athletics:
1. Submit a check with the User Fee Form
2. Pay through the FamilyID registration process at the time you register. (You may not want to choose this option if you are not sure your child will be on the final rosters.)
3. Pay through the FamilyID site at a time after you register but prior to the deadline.

User Fee payment deadline for the fall is September 11, 2023. 

Football starts on Friday, August 18th. 

Cheer starts on a date to be determined, but it will be mid/late August.

Unified Basketball begins in late September. 

 
All other sports start on Monday, August 21st.  

DEADLINE TO REGISTER to be eligible for the first day of tryouts/practices is as follows:

• Cheer- Friday, June 9, 2023 at noon. 
• Football- Monday, August 14th at noon
• Unified Basketball- TBA but some point in September
• All other fall sports- Wednesday, August 16th at noon

But Register early and cross it off the list!

Abbott and Lesser honored as Hockomock Scholar Athletes

Thursday night saw the Hockomock League hold one of its most cherished, special events of the year when it hosted the Hockmomock League Scholar Athlete banquet. 

Each year for more than 30 years, the Hockomock comes together in May to honor two student athletes from each of the 12 Hock schools.  Two graduating student athletes from each school are selected for excelling in both the classroom and on the playing field. It is really the award that best exemplifies and honors those who embrace the mission of educational athletics. 

It is extremely difficult to select recipients given that so many Bulldogs prioritize the "student" part of being a student athlete.  Canton's two award winners this year were Sierra Abbott  and Matthew Lesser.  Both Abbott and Lesser have earned amazingly high GPA's during their four years at CHS, while also contributing greatly to the many teams they have been a part of.  

Sierra Abbott  has been a huge contributor to both the Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams during her time here. She has been a leader and key contributor in both sports where she has served as a captain each season. She is heading south to attend University of Richmond in the fall. 

Matt Lesser has been a quiet and powerful leader of both the Football and Baseball teams during his CHS career. Matt has been dedicated to his teams.  He has served as a captain of the Bulldog Football team where he has led with expectional character and sportsmanship.  He will be heading to the heights to attend Boston College in the fall. 

The CHS Athletic Department proudly wishes both of these soon-to-be graduates, the best of luck in the next chapters of their lives.

Weather-related changes to schedule- Thursday, May 4- updated at 2:19pm!

Due to the continued poor weather conditions, the following changes have been made to the CHS Athletics schedule today- Thursday, May 4th:

- Girls Tennis vs. Mansfield is POSTPONED

- Varsity Baseball game vs. Mansfield will be played at Ruane Field at 4:30pm. 

- Froshmore Baseball game at Mansfield has been postponed. 

- JV Baseball game originally scheduled for Ruane at 4:30pm has been moved to Mansfield's Memorial Park at 4:00pm. Bus will leave CHS at 3:15pm.

- The Boys Tennis team will be traveling to Mansfield with the JV Baseball team departing CHS at 3:15pm. 

All other contests are on as originally scheduled.

Weather changes- Wednesday, May 3

Due to some mid-day rain, the following changes have been made to today's CHS Athletic schedule-

JV Baseball has been postponed.

Varsity Baseball has been moved to Ruane Field at JFK

Weather-related changes to Schedule- May 2nd

Due to rain and uncertain weather condidtions the following changes have been made to the CHS Athletics schedule on Tuesday, May 2nd:

• Baseball games with KP have been postponed to Wednesday, May 3rd at 3:45pm
• Softball games with KP have been postponed to Wednesday, May 17th at 3:45pm
• Tennis meets with KP have been postponed to Friday, May 5th at 3:45pm
• Unified Track at KP has been postponed. 
• Track meet with Sharon is ON TODAY as scheduled.
