Marinilli makes CHS Wrestling History

One week after being crowned the MIAA D2 State Wrestling Champion at 138lb weight class, CHS sophomore Eddie Marinilli made school history becoming the FIRST EVER Bulldog Wrestler to be crowned an All-State Champion.

For those unfamiliar with how the MIAA Wrestling Championships work, here is what Eddie accomplished:
All-State Champion!

  • Eddie was crowned Sectional Champion 3 weekends ago when he bested all Wrestlers at the 138lb weight class in the D2 Central Section of the state.  That qualified him to go the the D2 State Tournament last weekend.
  • Last weekend Eddie was crowned D2 State Champion at 138lb weight class, when he took on the best of all of the state's D2 wrestlers from all sections of the state.  He topped them all.
  • And, this weekend, Eddie faced off against the best 138lb Wrestlers from across the state in every division- All-State Champion. That means he was the best state champion of all the divisional state champions. That is a Bulldog first!
An All-State Championship is not determined in most sports, but Wrestling does truly determine who the best of the best is....and this year- at 138lbs- it is our Eddie Marinilli!

Boys Basketball team ends 26 year drought with Davenport Championship

Add 2018 to this list---Long time comin'
Friday night at CHS saw a packed house treated to a great Boys Basketball game between the Bulldogs and the Stoughton Black Knights. The game was tight through much of the contest but the Bulldogs pulled away by double digits late in the 3rd and were able to stave off an upset minded Black Knight squad. Final score- 65-56.

2018 Hock Davenport Champions
The win earned CHS our first Basketball league championship since both the boys and girls teams took the title in 1992.  It couldn't have happened with a better group.  Prior to the start of the season, the Bulldogs dedicated their season to their teammate- Xavier Machuga- who suffered a serious medical condition last spring and was unable to suit up for the team this year. (see Boston Globe Article). Tonight's win and subsequent Hockomock Davenport title is the cherry on top of what has already been an amazing journey of team, discovery, challenges and triumphs for this group.

Congratulations to coach Ryan Gordy, his staff and his amazing group of student athletes on making us all very proud.

Congratulations also go out to the Foxboro Warriors who's win tonight over N. Attleboro gave them a share of the Davenport title with the Bulldogs.

Ragusa signs NLI for Merrimack Football

The Canton High School Athletic Department is proud to announce that Alec Ragusa (class of 2018) signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Merrimack College and play football. The signing took place in a brief ceremony held at Canton High School on Friday, February 16th.

Ragusa has been a force on the gridiron for the Bulldogs for the past several seasons.  He has been a 3-year starter at linebacker and. 2-year starter at half-back. This past fall, he captained the Bulldog to a strong season, culminating in a 27-0 shutout win over Stoughton- a game Ragusa was critical in.  He led the Hockomock Davenport in touchdowns (13) and let the Bulldogs with tackles (87). He was a unanimous All-Hockomock selection and a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic.

Ragusa will be joining his older brother Jake on the Merrimack squad and is hoping to follow in this successful footsteps. Jake is currently an all-conference linebacker for Merrimack and former Hockomock League MVP.   All Bulldog fans will be proud to see these Bulldog brothers out on the field together again.

Best of luck to Alec!
