Praik making CHS Cheer proud at UCONN

Submitted by Stephanie Parker- CHS Cheer coach

Elissa Praik was an integral part of the CHS Cheerleading team during her years here. Elissa’s cheer story is a little unusual as her cheer career was interrupted by both personal life challenges as well as the challenges of the pandemic. During Elissa’s junior year she was awarded the unsung hero. Her unusual senior year when cheer ran during “wedge” and spring seasons, she represented Canton cheer as captain. Praik showed tremendous perseverance and tenacity and was a role model to her younger teammates on and off the mat.

This year, Praik attended the University of Connecticut as a freshman, and a college athlete on the varsity cheerleading team. She cheered for during both the UCONN football and basketball seasons, even cheering at games during The Elite Eight of March Madness. Praik is an incredible leader; she is a hard worker, has the kindest heart, and always looking to help others and give back to others.

When asked about her experience cheering in college Elissa shared the following: “
UConn Cheerleading has been a once in a lifetime experience. I’ve made so many connections and best friends while getting to continue my passion for cheer. I cheered at numerous March Madness games and traveled with the basketball teams. Being a part of a collegiate team is a special opportunity that has taught me so much more teamwork, leadership, and perseverance.”

As her high school coach, I am so proud to have had Elissa on our bulldog team and love seeing her excel at the collegiate level. I look forward to seeing her on the UCONN sidelines for the years to come.

Congratulations to Elissa on the completion of her first year! Go Huskies!
