Bill and Billy Cravens honored at Football Scrimmage

Friday was an emotional but joyful night at WWII Veteran's Memorial Field as CHS honored the memory of both Bill and Billy Cravens in two special ceremonies.

Bill and his son Billy both passed away this past winter/spring- Dad- after a battle with cancer and Son-after a battle with ALS. The losses were felt across Bulldog nation but also brought the community together. Bill was the most committed of all CHS Athletic fans- attending hundreds of contests annually.  Billy was a phenomenal football player for the 'dogs in the 70s and dedicated his professional life to giving back to the town's young athletes.

Last night saw Bulldog Nation come together to honor their memories in two very appropriate ways.

A chair has been permanently installed in the bleachers at the field to forever memorialize the decades of support that Bill Cravens showed to our student-athletes.

Immediately following the unveiling of the chair, attention shifted to the track and field where more than 100 Bulldogs gathered to participate in a mass Ice Bucket Challenge to strike out ALS in memory of Billy Cravens. With the football team readying to play their game in memory of Cravens, lining the rest of the fall athletes, a 10 second countdown led to the mass dumping of ice water. It was a wonderful tribute to Cravens.
Principal Derek Folan was among the more than 100 Bulldogs
participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge in memory of
Billy Cravens, class of '76.
The Bulldogs have challenged the rest of the Hock schools to do the same to help strike out ALS!

A Tribute and Challenge

Tonight at CHS's WWII Veteran's Memorial Field, will be a special night of remembrance, thanks and celebration.

Prior to tonight's Varsity Football scrimmage against Southeastern Regional High School, Bulldog Nation will kick off the season with two special events honoring one of Canton's most beloved father-son tandems of the past half-a-century- Bill and Billy Cravens.

Tonight, beginning at 6:30pm, two brief ceremonies will honor these two men.

Official Unveiling of the Bill Cravens Memorial Chair- A memorial chair has been constructed in the bleachers at WWII Veteran's Memorial Field in memory of Bill Cravens. This fitting tribute will forever stand as a reminder of a special man who reminded us all that it's easy to find the joys in life right around you.

Bulldog Ice Bucket Challenge in honor of Billy Cravens- Immediately after the unveiling of the chair, attention will shift to the CHS Track were CHS Fall Athletes will be meeting to do a mass Ice Bucket Challenge in memory of Billy Cravens. All Bulldogs are encouraged to accept our challenge by donating to the Pete Frates fund to knock out ALS. http://petefrates.com/

The Football Scrimmage will then be played in memory of Billy Cravens.

Please spread the word today the best you can as this event has been put together in just the past week or so so we need help in getting the word out!

Note- All Bulldog Athletes (any season) are invited to join us in the Ice Bucket Challenge. If participating, arrive by 6:15 with YOUR OWN BUCKET and ICE......we can provide the water.

The Heat is on

Attention Bulldogs- It's been an unusually cool summer but the thermometer is certainly pushing upwards this week. Be sure to drink plenty of water and be aware of how your body is reacting to the heat. Remember- when in doubt- sit out.  Heat is nothing to be messed with.
