Lambert makes major impact on our Bulldogs

A packed house Tuesday night at CHS's Morse Auditorium was treated to an amazing message of resilience, grit and perseverance by visiting speaker Noelle Lambert.

Lambert is a US Para-Olympian who lost her left leg in a moped accident in the summer of 2016.  At the time, she was a D1 Lacrosse player at UMASS Lowell.

Lambert spoke to hundreds of our Bulldogs and their parents about her story of hard work, tragedy and triumph. A former contestant on Survivor- season 43, Lambert awed the CHS audience with her personal story.

The recounting of the actual moped accident, thoughts on emotional struggles going well beyond her physical challenges, her lessons on controlling what is in your control, and her sharing that she is actually grateful for her accident- as it made her the person she is today- were all major points shared throughout the presentation.

There were so many important lessons of sports, achievement, struggle and life that Bulldogs left last night with.  Noelle stayed answering questions, taking photos and meeting scores of student athletes well after the presentation ended.

We were all so fortunate to have been present. Kudos to the crowd who were so attentive and respectful all night.

The visit was made possible by the hard work of the CHS Athletic Booster Club. If you are not yet a member, please consider becoming one today!  This type of programing, which is such an impactful  part of the CHS educational athletics experience, would truly not be possible without the support of our Booster Club. We really hope you will become a member today! Thank you!

The CHS Athletic Department is happy to announce that our Unified Sports program is beginning its 2024-25 season on Monday, October 7th! There is still plenty of room to join the squad. Register today!

CHS has been at the forefront of the Unified Sports scene since we launched our Unified Track and Field program in 2016. In Massachusetts, Unified Sports were born out of a collaboration between US Special Olympics and the MIAA.  Special Olympics Project Unify is an education-based project, funded by the US Dept. of Education, that uses the sports and education programs of Special Olympics to activate young people across the US. In order to promote school communities where all young people are agents of change- fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with disabilities.  Canton High School and Special Olympics believe that through sports young people can make a difference in friendships, schools and communities.

The program is open to ALL CHS students. The commitment is limited to two afternoon's each week- starting next week and ending in mid-November.

We are looking for student athletes and partners! If you enjoy basketball and are looking for a fun, inclusive, and meaningful experience please join!!!

Massaro appointed new Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Coach

Coach Marissa Massaro
The CHS Athletic Department is thrilled to announce the appointment of Marissa Massaro as our new Head Varsity Girls Ice Hockey Coach. Massaro takes the reins from Nikki Petrich, who served as the Bulldogs head coach for the past two seasons.

Massaro, a graduate of Brockton High School, played many different levels of hockey during a very successful playing career.  She was a two-year captain of NCAA Division 1 Franklin Pierce University and helped lead them to a NEWHA Championship in 2022. Massaro then went on to play hockey professionally in Europe in the EWHL. She was a member of the USA Women's National Ball Hockey team who won gold at the 2024 World Championships this past June.

Massaro's coaching experience has been with the Boston Junior Terriers Girls Program where she has both coached and been a key skills instructor for that highly successful program.

CHS is very excited to welcome Coach Massaro to the high school game. We are looking forward to watching her begin her educational athletics career as a Bulldog.

Coach Massaro had this to say upon her appointment-

"I am excited for the opportunity to be the next coach of the CHS Girls Ice Hockey team. I am looking forward to taking this next step in my coaching career with a program that is known for their success and excellence. I am eager to start working with these incredible student athletes."

The CHS Athletic Booster Club

For nearly two decades, the CHS Athletic Booster Club has worked tirelessly in support of our CHS athletic programs and student athletes.

This group supports ALL CHS ATHLETIC programs.  It is the only group sanctioned to raise monies on behalf of CHS student athletes.

The two largest annual fundraisers are their MEMBERSHIP DRIVE and their CORPORATE SPONSORS.

Membership Drive- If you are the parent of a CHS student athlete, please consider joining the Booster Club. With a high percentage of memberships among the families of our student athletes, the Boosters are able to provide so much.

Corporate Sponsor- Local business or any business associated with the families of our student athletes can support the club and be recognized with signage at our facilities as well as other ways.

Finally- The Boosters is looking for new faces to get involved in the work of running the club. Shout out to families of CHS freshmen and sophomores to consider attending the next meeting and helping with all the good work!

Mark Erickson named Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Coach

The CHS Athletic Department is thrilled to announce the hiring of Mark Erickson (no relation!) as our new Strength and Conditioning Coach.  Beginning immediately, Erickson will take the lead in all things fitness, strength and conditioning for the entire Bulldog Athletic program.

Coach Mark Erickson has been a strength and conditioning trainer for the last two decades and has trained a diverse group of young athletes from all different sports and skill levels, from middle school and high school, to D1, D2, and D3 college athletes.

Mark has had great success as a strength coach since moving to Canton in 2022, with trainees from youth football, girls basketball, softball, and volleyball, as well as current Canton High School athletes from football, baseball, hockey, and golf, participating in strength and conditioning training at his studio. A former student athlete from Brockton, MA, an award-winning natural bodybuilder, and award-winning jazz trumpet player (how about that?!), Coach Erickson knows the dedication and hard work it takes to consistently meet and exceed the goals he sets for himself. He takes pride in passing that experience and wisdom down to all of his athletes.

Coach Erickson is a true believer in positive motivation and delivering efficient and progressive strength and conditioning programs with a high success rate for all sports. He also believes in how hard work in the gym can not only improve one’s physical abilities, but also one’s cognitive abilities, confidence in themselves, and leadership skills.

Coach Mark Erickson had this to say upon his appointment-

"I am really excited and eager to take over the role of Strength and Conditioning Coach at Canton High School to continue the amazing work and highest standards that Coach Hughes has successfully implemented with all of our CHS athletes so far. As a Canton resident, Dad of 13 and 10 year old boys, and a youth football and baseball coach, I am doubly invested in the success of all of our Canton athletes. It gives me great pride to have this opportunity and I am looking forward to working hard to get the absolute best out of our athletes day in and day out!"

CHS Athletics welcomes Coach Mark Erickson to our Bulldog family!

CHS Athletics Events- Reminders, Expectations and Tips

With the CHS Fall athletic season in full swing this week, we are sharing some information regarding our CHS Athletic contests.

1. Some Fall contests have an admission fee charged at the gate. These include all varsity Football games, "night" Soccer games and all post-season tournament Volleyball, Field Hockey, Soccer and Football games.  Our typical contest tickets cost $5.75 and $3.75 for Senior Citizens. All tickets are digital. There is no cash option. We do accept credit cards at most of these contests.

You can CLICK HERE to visit our ticket site where you can find tickets to all of our contest that charge and admission. We add them all the time so don't panic of a game is not listed until a couple of days prior to the game.

We HIGHLY suggest you purchase your digital tickets PRIOR to arriving at the venue. It is easier for us and YOU!

2. PARKING on Campus- Please only park in marked spaces on campus. Parking in unmarked spots causes a great deal of issues for our pedestrian traffic and is not safe. Parking on upper campus and walking down to the field is always an easy walk and a great option!  Also, please respect our neighbors on Reynolds and Cotter Streets when leaving the lower campus lot- "the back way"- by driving slowly.

3. Be a great fan- Friendly reminder to be sure to enjoy yourself at our events.  We will not tolerate any berating of game officials or anyone else involved in our contests. Be classy, great fans.
